Jayco ramps up motorhome production

Big new 14,000sqm production facility to help meet rising demand for motorhomes

Jayco is capitalising on soaring demand for motorised recreational vehicles by ramping up production of its expanding campervan and motorhome range at a larger new production facility at its Dandenong, Victoria mega-factory.

"We have recently relocated our motorhomes team from a 9000 m2 space to a much larger 14,000 m2 facility, which features two production lines for motorhomes and campervans to support an increase in manufacturing," Jayco announced on social media recently.

"The recent growth of the motorhome and campervan market in Australia has given us the opportunity to expand our facility and implement a number of new upgrades to support advancements in product development."

New Jayco Kampervan available at VW dealers

Already one of Australia's biggest selling motorhome manufacturers, Jayco has boosted its motorised RV range this year with an innovative new Fiat-based campervan with pop-top roof bed, as well as a new Volkswagen Crafter-based campervan that is being sold exclusively at Volkswagen dealerships.

That's on top of its existing three-model campervan and two-model motorhome retail ranges, and other models it produces for rental fleets.

Jayco also now caters for the off-road market with the introduction of its first Mercedes-based all-terrain campervan a couple of years ago.

"Our state-of-the-art motorhome facility will support larger plans and projects going forward," the 47-year old RV manufacturer said.

"We’ve created a dedicated R&D area, where R&D staff can work closely with the products to develop new prototypes and ideas.

"A new materials area has also been implemented, allowing stock to be directly delivered from JIT suppliers based on production runs.

"A designated training area, called the Dojo area, was designed to provide employees with extra training when required. Whether they’re new to the company, changing roles, or simply need additional support, this area was created to strengthen their knowledge and skills."

Jayco motorhome production area has grown in size by around 50 per cent

While the family-owned RV business doesn't officially announce its overall sales figures, it's believed Jayco currently produces upwards of 14,000 camper trailer, caravan and motorhome units annually, and employs around 1300 workers at its Victorian factory. That's close to 40 per cent overall market share, based on an estimated 40,000 locally built and imported RVs expected to be sold in Australia in 2022.
