After a couple of years in hibernation, Jayco is bringing back its once-popular family-friendly Expander caravan.
Back in its hey-day the Expanda was available in around 10 different variations, with fold-out bedrooms at one or both ends and hardtop and pop-top models. But it appears the new MY25 Expanda range will initially only be available in the one model, according to the Jayco Australia website: a tandem-axle Expanda 17.56-2 Outback off-road pop-top with a Tare weight of 2115kg and tow-away pricing starting at $69,990.
With a fold-out double bed at each end, and two dinettes that convert to bedding for another four (smaller) family members or friends, the eight-berth Expanda is a small apartment on wheels as it also includes an internal kitchenette and a combination shower/toilet.
Standard external features include the JTECH 2.0 independent suspension, two 9kg gas bottles, twin 80L freshwater tanks, a roll-out awning, wireless reversing camera, gas bayonet, and a mains pressure tap.
Also included are Projecta electricals including a 100Ah lithium battery and 200W rooftop solar, and a 'Starlink-ready' connection with 12V cable.
Interior features include a four-burner cooktop and grille, microwave, 150L fridge/freezer, air-conditioner, continuous hot water, a 24in TV, stereo with internal/external speakers and an innerspring mattress for the main beds.
The Jayco Expanda was sold for around 20 years before it was pulled from Jayco's caravan range about two years ago. As well as all the extra beds to accommodate larger families, the main advantage was good internal living space and less towing length when compared to a conventional caravan.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, the Expanda is the second revival of a former, much-loved Jayco model, following the release of the limited edition Dove camper earlier this year.
Jayco says the all-new 2025 Expanda is now available to order, with production expected to start later this year.
Meanwhile, Jayco also unveiled a new Destiny G-Model 'toy hauler' motorhome at the recent 2025 Queensland Caravan Supershow.
Labelled as a prototype and with few details or proposed pricing provided at the show, the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter based G-Model features an extra large, garage-style style tunnel boot at the rear -- big enough on the offside to climb up into and stand up straight while inside!
The layout includes a front lounge/dinette with drop-down bed, well-equipped kitchenette and a full width rear ensuite. Check out the video walk-through below, and give your nearest Jayco dealer a call if you're interested in when it might be available for delivery...
