Jayco has re-entered the sub-$20,000 Australian-built, wind-up family camper trailer market with a new entry-level model designed to compete with big-selling Chinese campers -- including its very own imported JTrak tent trailer.
Making its public debut at the Melbourne Leisurefest from October 3-6, Jayco says the new entry-level Lark “represents a return to the original values of the Jayco Camper -affordable, uncomplicated, easy totow, and big to live in”.
The new Lark offers six berths, thanks to a slide-out double bed at each end and a café dinette that converts to another double bed. Other standard features include an internal kitchen with sink and two burner gas cooktop and a 90 litre fridge/freezer, while the supplied photos also suggest the standard camper comes with a 50mm ball coupling and basic touring suspension.
Tare and ATM weights are yet to be revealed but the Lark shouldn’t weigh too much with an “ultralight towball weight of 65kg”, according to Jayco.
“The Lark is a lightweight camper for families with small to medium sized car and SUVs,” the Dandenong, Victoria-based RV giant said in a media release.
The standard Lark is priced from $19,990, but for an extra $2000 buyers can upgrade to the more off-road ready ‘Bush Pack’ version which adds a few extras including an underslung axle, side checkerplate protection, and 15in rims.
The new entry-level Lark camper trailer is among four new models being released by Jayco at the Melbourne Leisurefest show, including a new 16ft CrossTrak hybrid camper from $40,990, a new entry-level Renault Master-based campervan from $79,990, and a sharply priced new 19ft Starcraft caravan from $46,490.
