Jayco is taking on dirt-road campervan specialists including Trakka and Horizon with the release of its first all-wheel drive campervan based on the Mercedes-Benz 4x4 Sprinter van.
Believed to be the first, regular production campervan or motorhome with all-paw traction offered by Jayco in its 45 year history, the new Jayco MS.22-2 All Terrain Campervan sits atop Jayco's now five-model campervan range, which starts at $81,990 for the front-drive 19ft Renault Master based RM.19 and tops out at $149,990 for the new 4WD All Terrain model.
It's also the first campervan to use new All Terrain moniker launched last year.
The layout is similar to Jayco's two-wheel drive Conquest and Optimum campervans, with a sliding passenger side door and rear barn doors providing access to a two berth layout that incorporates a one-person dinette behind the fixed front seats, combination shower/toilet and kitchenette, and rear dinette/lounge area that converts to a double bed.
Standard interior features include an 85-litre compressor fridge, sink with mixer tap, three gas burner cooktop, microwave, audio unit and 24in TV/DVD, shower and cassette toilet, 100Ah house battery with BMPro management system and 160W roof-top solar, and JHub Tablet control panel.
The All-Terrain campervan also comes with leatherette upholstery, overcab storage and kitchen storage including pot drawers as well as some storage space under the bed.
External features include a Fiamma roof hatch, four metre box awning, external light, powered entry step, rearview camera, 4kg gas bottle and 86 litre fresh and 110 litre grey water tanks.
Painted in 'Selenite Grey', the off-road campervan is powered by a 120kW/360Nm 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with seven-speed automatic transmission and 2000kg towing capacity.
It measures 6970mm long by 3000mm high by 2120mm wide, with a Tare weight of around 3150kg and 4100kg GVM.
As as well as four-wheel drive traction and greater ground clearance, the Jayco All Terrain camper can also be fitted with a steel bull bar for better protection on Outback adventures.
A roof-mounted air conditioner is also included as standard although an external shower and diesel heater are options.
