Safety recall for Snowy River caravans

Risk of gas leak and possible explosion for thousands of late-model imported caravans

Big-selling caravan company, Regent RV is conducting a voluntary product safety recall of gas pressure regulators installed on certain models of its Snowy River and NewGen caravan range, sold in both Australia and New Zealand.

Regent RV said a manufacturing defect in the internal diaphragm on the RV-One (DJYF1001-1 model) gas pressure regulator fitted to affected 'vans can lead to a gas leak, which poses a risk of fire, explosion or asphyxiation if gas is built up in an enclosed area and can lead to serious injury or death.

The compact two-stage metal regulator is mounted on the A-frame at the front of the 'van, between the gas cylinders and the body and is connected to the cylinders by flexible pigtail hoses.

Free replacement available

The affected Snowy River and NewGen caravans number in the thousands, and were built from May 31, 2024 to January 26, 2026. The Chinese-made caravans, pop-tops and hybrids which receive final fit-out and compliance checks at Regent's Melbourne facility, were sold at 15 dealers around Australia and one in New Zealand.

At least one SRV campervan is also included in the recall. A full list of affected 'vans including chassis numbers is available on the ACCC product safety website.

Regent RV says it will contact those affected in writing to request that they make an appointment through one of its dealers to arrange a free of charge replacement.

Customers are being advised to stop using the gas regulator and to turn off the gas cylinder and the gas supply valve on the regulator.

Owners can also contact Regent RV via the customer portal, to arrange for a replacement, or via phone at 1800 485 031 (Australia) or 800 764 900 (New Zealand).

The road ahead

Regent RV said no injuries or deaths have been reported to date, but immediate action is required to prevent incident.

“The safety of our customers is our absolute priority. We identified this issue and have chosen to act voluntarily and promptly at no cost to the customers," Regent RV Managing Director & CEO, Andrew Crank said.

"We encourage anyone with a caravan in the affected model range to check and book a free gas regulator replacement with the nearest Snowy River dealer which will be carried out by a licensed gas fitter/plumber.”
