Which are the most popular off-road camper trailers that people search for in our classified ads? We’ve analyzed the data and come up with the answers…
So without further ado, the top-five off-road camper searches on caravancampingsales over the past year in order of enquiry volume were: Jayco Swan Outback and Eagle Outback, Patriot Camper X1 and X3, Track Trailer Tvan, Ezytrail Stirling, and the Black Series Dominator.
Here’s a quick rundown of each model, plus links to where you can pick up a near-new or used example...
Jayco produced its first wind-up camper trailer in 1975, and has sold many thousands since, with the affordable, user-friendly canvas campers appealing to a broad range of buyers, from first-timers to families on tight budgets.
The Swan sleeps up to six people with twin beds as well as two dinettes, so is very appealing to families, while the slightly larger Swan is even more family-friendly. Ticking the Outback option box gets the JTECH independent coil suspension and other off-road features, to head further off the beaten track.
Both models are currently priced new at just over $30,000, while there are more than 150 near-new or used examples currently listed on caravancampingsales, priced from as little as $11,000. Unbeatable nationwide back-up and strong resale value are other good reasons to buy one...

The first Queensland-built Patriot bush camper, the X1, arrived about 10 years ago, followed by the more family friendly and upmarket X3 a few years later.
Both are beautifully designed, ruggedly built lightweight campers that are ideal for towing through the Outback, albeit with pricing to match. However, there are plenty of new and used examples on caravancampingsales so there’s always the chance of snagging a bargain, particularly one that’s been optioned up with desirable accessories by a previous owner...

Melbourne’s Track Trailer has been building its iconic Tvan pod camper for close to 25 years, with some of the original examples still making their way over challenging tracks, from the the Gibb River Road to the Canning Stock Route.
It’s fair to say they’re built to last, with military-inspired suspension and other bullet-proof features, along with light weight and a swift set-up for overlanding.
You can easily pay more than $100K for a brand-new Tvan these days, but there are plenty of used examples on the market for up to half that or less, that should still be in good working order and do a similar job with a few less frills...

Ezytrail was one of the first Chinese imported camper brands to gain a foothold in the Aussie market, and the popular Stirling tent camper range is currently available new in three variants, priced in the $20-$30K bracket.
But if you’re stretched for cash there are quite a few currently available on the used market that are less than 10 years old, for as little as a few thousand dollars. While the quality, design and durability won’t be up there with the premium Aussie campers, what you save in dollars could be spent potentially on upgrades and any minor fixes required...

Black Series started life as Sydney-based GIC Campers, before a re-brand saw the importer make a move away from cheap soft-floor campers to more upmarket hybrids and full-size caravans.
Most of the Black Series range is now predominantly sold new out of the USA, with just a couple of the tent camper models remaining down under, available under the Adventure Kings brand at 4WD Supacentre stores.
As far as used examples go, we counted close to 80 Black Series campers including the forward-fold Dominator model, currently for sale on caravancampingsales, priced from as little as $3500 for a seven-year-old example. Like some of the early-model Ezytrails, these dirt-cheap examples could make smart buying if you keep an open mind and are willing to take the good with the bad...
