New Gen3 Patriot X1 more affordable at $57,900

Gold Coast factory goes back to basics with latest iteration of its original compact bush basher

One of Australia's toughest camper trailers just got tougher, with Queensland's Patriot Campers lifting the lid on its latest Gen3 X1 powered tent-top camper.

Patriot founder Justin Montesalvo says the new Gen3 X1 is closer to the original X1 from 13 years ago than more recent editions; a return to laser cut decals and rocker switches, and not so much "filled with unnecessary necessities".

Less is more

Boasting structural aluminium construction, Trinamic Core coil suspension with remote reservoir shocks and 20mm of travel, an integrated tent system, and a PCOR electronic dust reduction system, tare weight for the Queensland-built Gen3 X1 starts at 895kg, with an ATM of 1495kg.

A starting price of $57,900 currently under-cuts the Gen2 X1 released in 2023 by $17,000, although the Gen2 X1 which remains on sale comes more lavishly equipped and weighs a fair bit more unloaded as a result.

The Gen3 X1 also comes standard with an automatic-opening hard lid and roof tent system, electric hot water and external shower, a 2030mm × 1520mm queen-size mattress, rear MOLLE panel, and a freestanding 270-degree awning with LED lighting and fold-down support poles.

It also gets the new Patriot IQ100 battery management system with 100Ah lithium battery, Redarc BC-DC 1240 and SmartCharge AC charger, along with a 100L water tank.

Cooking is on the external kitchen with sink, two burner gas cooker and a slide-out for an optional 73L fridge.

Other extra-cost options include change-room and multi-room canvas add-ons, 35-inch tyres, a Webasto diesel air heater, side-mounted MOLLE panels, a second 100Ah lithium battery, twin roof-mounted 200W solar panels, a Redarc 2000W inverter, swing-out Weber BBQ, and a newly-designed toilet-drop slide-out.

Four exterior colours are available, including the new bright orange 'Wildfire Dusk'.

The road ahead

The X1 is Patriot's original go-anywhere model, launched back in 2013 with a circa $30K pricetag before the compact camper went more and more upmarket in both features and pricing.

With around 4000 campers now on the road, the release of the more back-to-basics Gen3 X1 is in direct contrast to the recent move by the Gold Coast factory into the premium hybrid market, with its ST5 and ST7 Supertourer range-toppers.

If you want to know more, Patriot has put out a comprehensive 55 minute walkthrough video about its latest camper which is expected to go into full production in February 2027.
