Stockman strikes with streamlined Wasp

Sleek new Pod off-road trailer delivers ‘go anywhere’ comfort camping from $35,000

Best known for its plastic pod trailers, Victoria’s Stockman Products has added a sleek, teardrop-style off-road model to its range of compact and lightweight camper trailers.

Unlike its innovative, super-lightweight fold-out canvas campers, the new Stockman Pod Camper offers almost instant set-up for overnight stops, with its hard-walled, queen bed-sized interior offering cosy accommodation for a single or a couple.

Stockman Products General Manager Bryce Young said the Australian-designed Pod camper is constructed from composite sandwich panels with a fibreglass front boot and tailgate. Production is largely in China, with final finishing in Australia including electrical and plumbing work and fitment of accessories like the wrap-around awning.

Described as a “modern day teardrop’, the streamlined design includes a ‘dust-proof’ enclose storage area in the tapered nose, as well as some storage cupboards inside and the option to fit roof bars to carry a kayak, mountain bike or a rooftop tent.

Lifting up the rear tailgate reveals a recessed kitchen with more cupboards, a benchtop with sink, lighting, swing-out BBQ and optional bar fridge.

Other standard features include a 200 litre stainless steel water tank, two 100Ah batteries, 200W flexible solar panels, battery and water monitor, innerspring mattress, audio unit with indoor and outdoor speakers, while options include the 30-second swing-out awning, external fold-out shelf, 23in Smart TV, shower tent, gas hot water unit and 107 litre compressor fridge.

Designed “to take you anywhere” according to Stockman, the Pod Camper also comes with plenty of quality off-road gear including a front mesh stone guard, DO-35 coupling, Ark jockey wheel, and dual shock independent coil suspension.

The side-hinged entry doors feature built-in midge proof mesh and block-out blinds for the caravan-style windows, with stick-on Mozzie mesh door covers also supplied to keep the bugs out on warm nights when you want to keep the door open.

Tare weight is listed at 1080kg (with a ball weight of 140kg), with an ATM of 1500kg, although Stockman is looking to lift that to as high as 2000kg. It measures 5.0m long, 2.15m wide and 2.05m high.

Young said the plan is to offer two variants of the Pod Camper: an entry-level EX priced from around $35,000, and a top-spec Wasp priced around $45,000.
