Good news for fully paid up Zone RV customers

Administrators are now handing the keys to customers that paid in full for completed but undelivered 'vans before the Queensland manufacturer went bust

UPDATED DECEMBER 18, 2025: The ABC is reporting that around 40 customers that had paid in full for completed but undelivered Zone 'vans before the company shut its gates and was put into administration in early-December, will now receive them.

So far about 20 customers that had paid in full have been handed the keys but have had to pay an additional 12 per cent fee to help cover costs of keeping the factory running and completing some remaining caravans. These customers also "signed confidentiality agreements before collecting their caravans".

Meanwhile, administrators Cor Cordis have informed around 140 customers who have made progress payments (some as much as $168,000 or around 80 per cent of the full price) for their yet to be built Zone 'vans that they will not receive them.

The ABC is also reporting that Zone RV's financial issues go back a number of years, as its "most recent annual report showed a loss of $4.75 million in 2023-24".

Brand new $179,500 Zone Expedition Hardtop at the 2025 Queensland Caravan Supershow

UPDATED DECEMBER 12, 2025: Administrators Cor Cordis have revealed at the first creditors' online meeting this week that the Sunshine Coast caravan manufacturer owes creditors about $40 million, including $18 million to customers, $20 million to suppliers, $4 million employee entitlements and $1.4 million unpaid taxes.

Around 240 of Zone's 280 staff have been sacked, while 180 customers who had placed deposits (or paid in full) on undelivered caravans, remain in limbo.

Cor Cordis partner Rahul Goyal said at the meeting that Zone RV had an annual turnover of about $70 million and that: "It's not unusual for a business of this size to owe this amount of money".

He said there's some chance that customers who had paid in full for completed but undelivered 'vans will still receive them; the rest who had made staggered payments on unbuilt 'vans remain in limbo.

The ABC reports that Zone RV "was under significant financial stress 18 months ago" according to its latest annual report.

Administrators are expected to provide a report and recommendations regarding Zone RV's future in January.

Zone's Expedition pop-top won a Best New RV innovation award in 2023

DECEMBER 2, 2025: The Sunshine Coast's Zone RV which builds some of Australia's most desirable off-road caravans and hybrids, has shut down operations and gone into voluntary administration.

The innovative Coolum, Queensland-based manufacturer this week appointed Rahul Goyal, Catherine Margaret Conneely and Stephen Earel of restructuring advisory firm Cor Cordis as voluntary administrators of Zone Manufacturing Pty Ltd and Zone RV Holdings Pty Ltd, according to documents lodged with ASIC.

It's believed Zone RV employed around 250 workers and produced hundreds of 'vans annually at its two Queensland sites. The upmarket composite caravan specialist will carry on operations in a "substantially reduced capacity" while administrators attempt to rescue the business.

"Our immediate priority is to assess all viable options that maximise outcomes for all stakeholders while exploring avenues for a sustainable future for the brand," Rahul Goyal from Cor Cordis said.

A virtual meeting of creditors, including suppliers and individuals who had placed deposits on undelivered caravans, will be held next week (December 10).

Zone RV buyers and suppliers facing big losses

Zone RV customers who had placed deposits on undelivered caravans face potential losses of up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, while suppliers are also facing substantial losses after the collapse of the 10-year old Queensland premium caravan builder.

According to the Zone RV website, Zone caravan buyers were required to put down an initial 5% deposit, followed by a 40% mid-build payment, and a further 35% payment two months from the completion date. The final 20% was due by the pick-up date.

It's been reported that one Victorian couple was asked to transfer the final $40,000 payment on their newly completed Zone 'van, just hours before the business closed its gates and days before they were due to pick up their 'van. While another Sydney couple that was due to collect their 'van next week had already paid $270,000 to Zone.

More than 200 Zone RV employees with entitlements owing were also told this week they'd lost their job, with the first creditors meeting set to take place on December 10.

Meanwhile, 7News is reporting that a whistleblower alerted the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) back in September, claiming that Zone RV was trading insolvent, after which it is reported that ASIC decided not to "take any further action at this time”.

Rise and fall

Zone RV kicked off in 2014 as an off-shoot of Cure Composites, which at the time specialised in the manufacture of composite panels for truck bodies and trailers as well as high-end boats.

It started with flat-pack kits before focussing on a line-up of turn-key all composite hybrids and full-size luxury 'vans. Known for its innovative products, Zone's current four-model range including the latest Expedition Hardtop starts at around $170,000.

However, for a period of around three years from 2020 Zone offered a cut-price off-road caravan model called the Base, priced from $89,990, as well as the compact Expedition hybrid from $49,900.

It's believed that at its peak Zone RV built up to 500 or more 'vans annually at its Sunshine Coast facility.

In recent years Zone invested $7.5 million in a 5000sqm facility in the Coolum Eco Industrial Park, while the company was awarded a $1.16 million Queensland government grant that went towards the purchase of Australia's largest 3D printer.

Zone RV currently has one dealer in NSW, Off Grid Outfitters, and also had a Melbourne dealer for a short time.

Zone's longstanding 'hand-over' arrangement at the Hangar O glamping facility in Gunalda, Queensland also ended earlier this year.
