X Series RV and Sunland caravans enter administration

Well-known Australian manufacturer and fledgling imported brand hit financial difficulties

Administrators have been appointed for two-year old imported brand X Series RV and well-known Australian caravan manufacturer Sunland RV, along with sub-brand Phoenix RV.

The three RV brands are run by the same Melbourne owners and are marketed under the Pakenham, Victoria-based Global RV Sales banner.

Sunland RV builds high-end caravans and was purchased from founder Roy Wyss in 2023, while X Series RV kicked off around a year later, rolling out a wide range of Chinese built models from toy haulers and full size caravans, to pod campers and motorhomes.

It's believed Phoenix caravans which feature a full composite build, are built in the same factory as Sunland 'vans, and are sold at a number of dealers around the country.

Brent Leigh Morgan and Shane Justin Cremin of Melbourne-based Rodgers Reidy have been appointed voluntary administrators of Sunland RV Pty Ltd, X Series RV Pty Ltd, and Global RV Corp Pty Ltd.

Looking for a buyer

According to a statement, the "administrators have begun an urgent review of the companies’ finances, operations, customer orders, inventory and manufacturing capability. The goal is simple: preserve as much value as possible for creditors and customers while exploring a path forward for the business.

"This will involve: considering restructuring proposals through a Deed of Company Arrangement (DOCA); calling for expressions of interest from strategic and financial investors, (and) investigating potential sale opportunities for some or all business assets."

“We understand this news will be unsettling for customers waiting on their caravan and for creditors connected to these businesses,” said one of the administrators, Brent Morgan.

“Our priority from day one is to work quickly and transparently, explore every option to keep the business operating, and keep affected parties informed every step of the way.”

The statement also said that they are "working to find a buyer who can take over operations and facilities, with the aim of keeping caravan supply running wherever possible".

X Series and Sunland posting insolvency notices is the latest in a number of caravan company collapses in recent weeks, as the 200-plus RV brands that currently operate in Australia battle a severe downturn in the local caravan market.
