We’re all for multi-purpose recreational vehicles here at caravancampingsales, whether it’s a floating caravan or monster toy hauler.
However, the US-built Boater Home takes the cake, with its outlandish design, eye-catching looks and multi-function capabilities.

Part motorhome, part trailer boat and part party bus, the Boater Home was built in the 1980s based on a Ford Econoline, with just 21 believed to be in existence.
This particular example, featured in the ‘Ridiculous Rides’ series, currently resides in Nevada and has been in the same family since new.
According to owner John, his Dad spotted it in a Popular Science magazine in the 1980s and said "I’ve got to have that".

The “half boat, half van hybrid” was originally white but John has made a few improvements over the years, including adding the eye-catching livery.
“About 75 per cent of the Boater Home is original. I’ve done a bit of work to it, made it bigger inside a little more roomy,” he says.
As you can see in the video below, the Boater Home is seamlessly connected in two parts, with the fibreglass boat section with custom swim deck, outboard motor, and underwater lighting sliding effortlessly off the back at the boat ramp.
The coastal decor theme inside includes distressed timber with sea shell decorations, along with typical RV appointments like a kitchen with sink and cooktop, air-conditioning, fridge, microwave and shower/toilet. Sleeping is on a café dinette which converts to a bed, and another two lounges up front that turn into another double at night.
“It’s really convenient, it’s fun, it’s unique, it’s exactly like an RV but it floats, it’s amazing,” is how the owner describes it.
Believe it or not, John also owns another Boater Home that he bought for just US$11,000, that he plans to renovate including adding a second deck. As well as being used on the water and in the RV park, the "family heirloom" also does duty as a party bus for cruising down the Las Vegas strip.
