There are plenty of cool new gadgets hitting the market for travellers, but few are as cool in a literal as well figurative sense as the Zero Breeze portable air-conditioner. While there are other portable cooling devices available, the developers of the Zero Breeze reckon its size and weight (6.3kg) make it much lighter as well as more efficient than other portable air-conditioners available. The Zero Breeze uses rotary compression refrigeraton technology to cool a 4.5 square metre space down as low as seven degrees. Unlike other portable cooling devices it doesn’t have to be plugged in to an external power source, with a separate 4kg battery pack available that will run the unit for up to five hours.
It also has multiple functions. with a Bluetooth speaker, LED night light and smart phone charger included in the package.
A separate tube has to be attached to run the hot air exhaust outside if you’re running it in an enclosed space. And depending on fan speed it also produces a bit of noise; around 50 dB when running, or about the same volume as the quietest generators. The Zero Breeze is scheduled to go into production early next year, after being crowdfunded by an online campaign, with a retail price expected of around $600 including battery.
