We're big fans of grunty V8 powered tow vehicles at caravancampingsales, but hats off to the American petrolheads that give new meaning to the "no substitute for cubic inches" adage after recently dragging a humble camper trailer behind a record-breaking dragster down a quarter-mile strip.
Touted as one of the world's fastest street cars, the 'Sick Seconds Camaro' driven by Tom Bailey proceeded to smoke the tyres for almost the entire length of the quarter mile strip, engulfing the unique RV rig in a cloud of tyre smoke.

Apparently it's the first time a burnout with camper trailer in tow has been allowed at an officially sanctioned drag meet, with the thumping 640ci twin turbo V8 in the street legal Camaro not lacking any pulling power with up to 4000hp (around 3000kW) on tap-- that's the combined output of around 15 V8 turbo-diesel 200 Series LandCruisers!
There's also a simulated drag race with another camper-towing street rod, done at a more relaxed pace than the 250 mph-plus (402km/h) top speed of these V8 beasts - apart from the likely scenario of severe trailer sway when attempting a sub-six second pass, the camper would also prevent the car's parachute 'brake' from opening.

As for the drivers, it was a bit like following a road train down the dusty Oodnadatta Track -- with almost zero visibility as tow vehicle and camper disappear in a cloud of smoke.
Makes you think the poor camper trailers behind needed a smoke reduction system rather than a dust reduction unit now regularly fitted to off-road RVs.
