Wonderland usually builds its caravans with a ply or aluminium frame and aluminium or fibreglass composite panels, but the new Solara model gets standalone 35mm thick fibreglass sandwich panels for the walls and one-piece roof, together with a honeycomb floor.

The fibreglass skinned panels with extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam core, are supplied by Melbourne's Creative Composites which also manufactures body panels for a number of other Melbourne caravan brands including Crusader and Nova.

For the panel joins, Wonderland uses a Truline (J-mould) mould with rubber insert, finished off with aluminum roof cap edging.

While requiring a different manufacturing process and adding to the cost of the 'van, the advantages of composite panels are that they are light and strong with good sound and thermal insulation properties, while the use of the one-piece panels reduces joins and potential leak points.

Solara buyers have the choice of a hot dipped galvanised chassis or a steel chassis protected by a textured 2K PU black coating.
