Winnebago shakes up motorhome market

Breezy rear toilet and karaoke shower headline bold new Brisbane-built motorhomes

Apollo has expanded its compact and mid-sized range motorhome range with two eye-catching new Brisbane-built Winnebago models breaking cover at the Victorian Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow in Melbourne.

Built on an Iveco 50 Daily platform, the $149,990 Iluka is a 25ft 11in long, four-berth motorhome, with buyers given a choice of north-south island rear pillow-top queen or twin single rear bedroom layouts in its partitioned rear bedroom, in addition to the double bed in its Luton peak.

Apart from its many comfort features, that include quality European-style décor, and an L-shaped kitchen with two gas and an induction electric hob cooktop, fan-forced oven and grill, the Iluka has a mid-ship ensuite with separate new model Dometic toilet and a curved cubicle shower with some funky violet strip lighting and ‘fake’ wall tiling.

The motorhome comes with 100 litres of fresh, plus a 100-litre grey water tank, 150W of roof-mounted solar, a wind-out cassette awning, a 100W deep cycle battery, 1000W inverter and a BMPro battery management system that includes a 25 amp battery charger.

To sweeten the deal, the Iveco’s 3.0 litre, turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine gets a 150kW engine upgrade, with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Open-air toilet, anyone?

Also built at Apollo’s Brisbane plant, the smaller Winnebago Trinity motorhome is based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and features a versatile layout that allows a section of the lounge to slide forward in front of the side entry door and the cushions to be re-positioned to create a queen-size bed.

In this night-time configuration, you exit the Trinity via its galley, separate shower and toilet ensuite, which opens up to the outside world via the rear barn-type doors.

An appealing feature of the interior layout is that the lounge-style front seats in the driving compartment can swivel to become additional seats in the lounge before the bed is assembled.

At 24ft 2in long and 6ft 4in wide, the Trinity will appeal to travellers looking for ease of manoeuvrability and parking at its RRP of $119, 849.
