One of the world's most famous and successful recreational vehicle brands has celebrated its 500,000th production motorhome.
Winnebago recently hit the milestone with the 500,000th vehicle rolling off the assembly line at the iconic RV manufacturer's mega-factory in Forest City, North Iowa, located on a 60 acre site and dubbed the "largest motorhome manufacturing facility in the world".
Claimed as an industry first, the 500,000th Winnebago was a tough-looking 19ft 7in long, Revel all-terrain campervan based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, which has a retail price of just over US$200,000 (approx. AUD$267,000).
Winnebago currently offers 20 motorised RV models to American buyers, from supersized A-class luxury motorhomes to smaller C-class models, and a couple of all-terrain models. The company first started building motorhomes under the Winnebago name in the early-1960s.
Winnebago also produces a range of caravans, which were sold briefly in Australia.
Like other RV manufacturers in the US and around the world, Winnebago is currently enjoying a boom in RV sales, and recently reported $1.2 billion revenue in the second quarter of 2022; a 29 per cent increase on 2021 sales over the same period.
Like many other RV manufacturers it's also battling production issues including pandemic-related supply chain problems, and reported a $4.37 billion current backlog in motorhome and trailerable RV orders.
A separate range of Australian-built Winnebago branded motorhomes are currently sold in Australia, built under licence by Apollo.
