Black is the new white for West Australia’s Windsor Caravans, with the 42-year-old manufacturer unleashing its most expensive and arguably most striking model to date.
Based on the already luxury-lined Royale range of full-sized caravans, the new range-topping Phantom takes it up a notch with an exclusive ‘carbon fibre’ look courtesy of specially coated aluminium cladding.
Other exterior accoutrements include front and rear silver and black moulded panels, polished checker plate along the body sides while both wheel spats and the cover for the rear-mounted spare tyre are finished in black gloss.
Inside, the stylish Euro-look interior that on some versions includes a ‘floating’ cocktail cabinet has been further enhanced by white ‘Phantom’ stitching on the black leather dinette seating and bedhead, and ‘Lava’ gloss finish on doors and drawers.
Over and above the already extensive equipment list on the Royale, which includes such luxuries as a 185 litre three-way fridge and heated towel rail, the eye-catching Phantom gets a bigger 4kg washing machine, slide-out tunnel drawer and off-road independent suspension.
It also comes with the RTV pack for dirt road touring, which includes a stronger A-frame and chassis, galvanised steel guards for the two, 80 litre water tanks, off-road brakes, solar wiring and beefier 16in alloys with Bridgestone tyres.
The Phantom is available in three layouts, with the biggest 24ft 6in (7.48m) long RC759s version boasting separate front bedroom and extra-large rear bathroom, priced at $107,650 (tow-away, South Australia).
