As many as 500 adventure-seeking women from all over Australia are expected to turn up to a unique, week-long camp-out in central Australia around late-August.
Described as “an epic women’s five day camping event in the red centre”, Stuck in the Middle with You’s is the first official event organised by Rolling Solo Australia, a popular online outdoors and camping community with close to 6000 members. According to the official event page, tag-along convoys will be leaving from every state in Australia on August 10 this year, picking up other participants at pre-determined points along the way. They’ll all meet up at the picturesque bush campground at the Ross River Resort, located 80km from Alice Springs in the East McDonnell Ranges. There are a few accommodation options available, however due to the popularity of the event powered sites are already sold out with only unpowered sites and bunkhouse and cabin beds still available from $235.
Guest tickets are also available for those who just want to turn up and take part in the fun without staying on site.
Participants will have the option of being as lazy or energetic as they desire, with a host of activities planned including bushwalking and day trips as well as workshops on topics including bush tucker, rope knots, cooking, photography, two-way radios, travel fitness and the Chinese practice of Qigong.
As part of a big gourmet BBQ on one of the days, event organiser Michelle Lang is also planning a surprise as she hopes to create “herstory as we get together to attempt a Guinness World Record in the desert”.
Given the nature of the event, some strict safety measures have been adopted, including not revealing specific details about convoy locations to the public.
However Lang, who quit her day job to concentrate full-time on the unique event, said the response had been overwhelming with half of the expected attendance already booked within the first three months.
“Many members have commented that joining the group and ultimately this event has given them courage, motivation to get out there, a purpose and something to look forward to.,” Lang told Australian Caravan + RV magazine.
"As travelling to the Red Centre, although on their bucket list was not something they were prepared to do alone. It’s very rewarding to know that my little crazy idea has bloomed and inspired so many ladies to get out their comfort zone and come along to the event.”
