Queensland camper trailer importer Wild Boar sprung a surprise at the recent Gold Coast Caravan & Outdoor Expo, with its curvaceous new 16ft Bush Trotter full-height, off-road caravan breaking cover, and the accustomed chunky Chinese-built hybrid mould.
With innovative features, such as a king-size bed that rises electrically, motorhome-style, to the roof above its rear lounge (that can then be configured as an additional king bed by dropping the central dining table and re-arranging the lounge cushions), a full internal shower and toilet ensuite, a standard induction cooktop for its inside and outside kitchens and a raft of premium locally-sourced off-road equipment, the Wild Boar Bush Trotter joins the Brendale-based company’s existing 10ft and 12ft camper models, with an additional gap-filling 14ft Bush Trotter on the way.

Featuring an aluminium composite panel-sided body with fibreglass front and rear panel and roof mouldings, and a polypropylene honeycomb core waterproof floor atop a hot-dipped galvanised steel chassis, the new Wild Boar Bush Trotter has been designed locally, with its $63,900 price tag pitching it above its Chinese-built rivals and into the thick of the highly competitive locally-built hybrids.
The only real clue to its overseas origins is its 2390kg Tare weight, which typically for a Chinese RV, is not light for its dimensions, while its payload of 410kg allowed by its 2800kg ATM is modest.

True to hybrid off-road norms, the Wild Boar Bush Trotter offers both indoor and outdoor cooking, with its large slide-out kitchen holding a large cabinet fridge (up to 100 litre in size) and a stainless steel BBQ, adjacent to a swing out three-burner Smev gas cooktop and stainless steel sink – all beneath a standard 4000 Series Thule awning.
The van’s left wall hides a pantry with storage for plates, etc. while a battery of electrics including level gauges for the standard twin stone-shielded 110 litre fresh and single 60 litre grey water tanks and the batteries. A separate rear generator body hatch holds most brands up to 2.5KVA.

The Wild Boar’s front boot houses its electrics, including twin 100AH AGM batteries, a Projecta PM300 BMS and a 30 Amp solar charger connected to a single 180 Watt Enerdrive rooftop glass solar panel.
A full Enerdrive lithium battery management system is optional and includes a B-Tec 200AH G2 Lithium battery and a 2000W ePower inverter.
Twin MaxTrax mud or sand traction panels are also housed in this boot.

Inside, the compact interior includes the combined shower/toilet with a hand-basin opposite the rear entry door, with a standard 90 litre fridge/freezer in a cupboard to its left and an induction cooktop and stainless steel sink opposite.
Underneath, the Bush Trotter appears to be off-road ready, with Wild Boar’s in-house designed adjustable independent suspension with Dobinsons dual nitro gas shock absorbers per wheel and custom-made coil springs, while there's a Cruisemaster DO-35 coupling up front and 12-inch brakes behind standard, 16-inch alloy wheels shod with MT 265/75-16 tyres.

The Wild Boar Bush Trotter drops into one of the most competitive segments of the RV market, but with its unique styling and abundance of features, it certainly stands out from the crowd!
