Warning for Tamworth Festival campers

Caravanners cautioned to watch out for thieves at Australia’s largest music festival
Caravanners and campers attending this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival have been warned to lock up their valuables and watch out for opportunistic thieves
Thousands are expected to camp in tents or recreational vehicles at the main Riverside Campgrounds, as well as smaller camping areas around Tamworth during the popular music festival, dubbed the biggest of its type in Australia, which runs January 20-29.
An unpowered site at the campgrounds for the full duration of the festival costs $155 per vehicle, but as there is no security provided the organisers as well as NSW Police have warned campers to carry valuables or lock them up securely.
“Keep an eye on your property, don’t leave valuables unattended and in an emergency contact security, local police or call Triple Zero (000),” was the advice of Operation Commander, Acting Superintendent Jeff Budd.

“Camping is often seen as an integral part of the overall festival experience so with thousands flocking to the grounds on offer we’re reminding people to be mindful for their safety and the safety of others,” he said.

Other tips provided by the police included locking a caravan or campervan when it’s left unattended and, where possible, use a lock to secure a tent.
Other advice was to report any suspicious behaviour to police, get to know your surrounding campers, and if possible leave valuables at home.
More than 50,000 fans are expected to descend on Tamworth for the 10-day festival that involves 700 performers covering the full gamut of country music from honky tonk to bluegrass, ballads, rock and folk.
Headline acts this year include multi Golden Guitar winners Adam Harvey and Felicity Urquhart, along with household names such as Kasey Chambers and Troy Cassar-Daley.
