Volkswagen has released a single sketch tease of a production version of a factory-built camper van based on its latest full-sized Crafter delivery van.
Named the California XXL, the latest camper joins the Transporter T6-based California that is already available in European markets.
Based on a medium-length wheelbase Crafter, the latest flagship camper van measures in at a substantial 5986mm long but manages to package in enough to keep fans of the great outdoors content for days on end.
Thanks to a high-roof, full-size adults can stand and move around the Volkswagen's cabin without having to duck.
Inside, the California XXL manages to incorporate a combination shower/toilet, sleeping space for two adults and two children and a small kitchen that features a sink, gas cooktop and two fridges.
Pictured is the concept version, that also used luxury sedan-style mood lighting and came with a large panoramic roof but the star attraction was a projector TV in the bed area.
It's not known if those will make it to production.
Speaking of which, the production version of the California XXL will make its global debut at the Caravan Salon in late August in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Pricing is expected to be steep. In the UK the Transporter T6-based California is priced from £46,625 (A$83,200).
The larger Crafter camper is expected to weigh in at around A$110,000.
