Vista RV expands Crossover range

The original Crossover off-road camper now has a big as well as little brother

Vista RV has become a respected name in off-road camper trailers since Louie Cretella decided to build his ideal crossover RV in Bayswater, Melbourne back in 2006.

More than 200 Vista RV Crossovers later Vista’s range has recently been expanded with two new, two-berth models, the TVK Crossover Kompact and now the Crossover XL.

As their names suggests, the TVK Crossover is a ‘shortie’ – 400mm shorter in the rear bodywork than the original and continuing central Crossover ‘Classic’ model – while the XL is 300mm longer in the tail.

All three share the same super-sturdy galvanised steel chassis with monster 125mm x 75mm main chassis members and a 100mm x 50mm A-frame, unique multi-link trailing arm independent suspension and a tough composite steel, aluminium and fibreglass superstructure.

The principal differences are the length of the bodywork rear of the door and the longer front-hinged hard lid pop-up roof that rises above the kitchen and dining area.

Since being previewed at Melbourne’s Leisurefest in early October, the XL has become Vista’s most popular Crossover model and it’s expected to account for half of the 50 vehicles that the factory expects to build in 2013.

The extra kitchen space with its more extensive storage space underneath, alongside the vehicle’s standard Waeco 80 litre 12v/240v fridge is winning many buyers over according to Louie. While the larger lifting roof also provides additional living room inside behind the convertible queen-size bed and four-seater dinette.

Another XL asset is its deeper slide-out exterior kitchen that in addition to its two-burner wind-shielded cooktop includes two pull out cutlery and kitchen appliance drawers, and a pull out stainless steel sink complete with tap.

It also has two additional deep storage areas for pots and pans, plates, bowls and mugs.

Despite the extra bodywork and features, the XL with a Tare of 1220kg weighs only 70kg more than the Classic XL and maintains the same 120kg ball weight.

The new Vista Crossover XL is priced from $59,890, compared with the ‘Classic’ Crossover at $56,390 and the TVK at $50,900.
