Vista Crossover 'Fat Boy' breaks cover
New, larger 2XL model delivers first internal ensuite in Melbourne camper trailer manufacturer's 20 year historyMelbourne manufacturer Vista RV has provided a sneak peak of its latest and most luxurious Crossover 2XL model, prior to its public debut at the 2026 Melbourne Leisurefest show in early October.
The Bayswater, Victoria boutique builder first introduced its rugged Crossover camper trailers in 2006. Several range extensions have followed with the latest Crossover 2XL being the largest in the range to date.
Demand for creature comforts
Father and daughter team, Louie and Amber Cretella are the dynamic duo behind the Vista RV company, with Lou explaining the rationale behind the new range-topping 2XL, which he jokingly referred to as 'Fat Boy' during its development.
“We have always focused on lightweight purpose-built camper trailers that are tough, reliable and will get you anywhere," he said.
"A key part of our success has been a minimalist approach to size and interior amenity. However, part of the market is asking for just that little more creature comfort.”
The Crossover 2XL meets that demand with an internal shower and toilet; a first for the 20-year old RV manufacturer. There’s also a dedicated lounge and bed inside; unlike smaller Crossover models which feature a convertible arrangement.
The enhanced interior comforts have been achieved by making the new camper 800mm longer, 150mm taller and 150mm wider than the standard Crossover compact off-road pod camper.
Another key change is the move to a pop-top roof, instead of the usual hinge roof which is lower at one end.
Of course, these changes add weight with the tare now up around 1600kg (ATM is 2500kg), although that's still a decent number for a 15ft camper designed and built using strong, durable construction materials.
Otherwise, the Crossover 2XL carries over key elements from other Crossover models including the in-house heavy-duty chassis and suspension system, and unique combination of fibreglass, ply reinforcement and steel panels to create a tough-as-nails body structure.
The road ahead
Starting at $134,500, the 6170mm long (overall), 2410mm high and just over 2.0m wide, Crossover 2XL also comes standard with a Redarc/Arizon power system including 628Ah lithium battery pack, 3000W inverter and 1260W solar, along with other features like a 130L fridge, hot water system and air-conditioner.
Vista RV says if you order one today you can get it in 16 weeks -- just in time for a post-Xmas getaway.
