After being donated to Caravanning Queensland by Adventure Caravans in Brisbane, a breadvan-shaped 1958 Caravan has been transformed in just a few months from
an unloved rust bucket into a gleaming white, smooth aluminium beauty by retro-van builder Jackaroo Caravans.
The
fledgling Gold Coast-based manufacturer had help with the interior design from The Block TV celebrities Trixie and Johnno, who appeared alongside the freshly-rebuilt charity van at this year’s Queensland Caravan Supershow.
Other sponsors included CIL Insurance and RV accessory specialists Korr, Dometic and Camec, which supplied interior fittings and appliances including the main fridge and separate bar fridge, cooktop, microwave, rangehood, air-conditioner, TV aerial and reading lights.
Along with plenty of retro as well as domestic styling touches, the cosy, bright white interior squeezes in new, modern furniture including cupboards and a wardrobe along with a comfy lounge, small kitchen, and a day bed/double bed.
A spokesperson for Caravanning Queensland said a date had not been set for the auction but it’s likely to take place in the next month or two after finishing touches are completed on the lightweight, single axle van.
Nicknamed ‘Sista’, the rare, NSW built model is expected to fetch between $20,000 and $30,000, with all proceeds going to the Assist-a-Sista charity.
