One of the more creative and colourful caravan publications sold in Australia has ceased production after five years and 30 issues.
The passion project of vintage caravan enthusiast Lisa Mora, the bi-monthly Vintage Caravan Magazine was one of the most interesting magazines in the newsagent, with glossy, period-style photo-spreads of re-built vintage vans located in Australia and overseas as well as coverage of retro events and old-school rallies.
Mora this week wrote on the magazine’s Facebook page that issue 30, which featured a spectacular ‘yarn bombed’ 1960 Sunliner on the cover, would be the last after sales of recent issues were insufficient to cover printing costs. “The Australian printer has now said that they will not print another issue until the last account is paid in full,” she said.
Mora also blamed the rising cost of posting out the magazine, which she said had been her “life for the past five and half years, my dream”.
She also lamented the fact that the magazine’s strong social media following including more than 54,000 Facebook fans, couldn’t be converted into enough subscribers to keep the business afloat.
The full gloss colour magazine was available for $10 on the stands, or cheaper through an annual subscription. There were spin-offs including an annual calendar, book, and merchandise, and a version called Vintage Trailer magazine was sold in the US.
Mora together with her eye-catching, pastel pink 1960s Sunliner fibreglass van called 'Betty' were regular visitors to caravan shows and vintage van events around the country. However, to help repay debts she’s put up for sale another treasured possession, a matching pink 1963 Vauxhall Cresta. Back issues and calendars can still be purchased on the Vintage Caravan Magazine website.
