In what is another blow to the Victorian RV industry, Caravan Industry Victoria has announced that the 2021 Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow will be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
One of Australia's biggest caravan shows, the Victorian Supershow was scheduled to run in February, 2021 at the Melbourne Showgrounds but the CIV said the start date of the popular five-day show will be pushed back to later in the year.
"We must comply with the current Victorian Government restrictions to keep everyone safe, no matter the effect it has on consumers, business and livelihoods," CIV CEO Rob Lucas said.
"We are committed to supporting our industry and providing events to help business connect with consumers in a new COVID normal, but we are just lacking the support and leadership by the Victorian State Government to allow us to make the strategic moves required to deliver consumers the state’s biggest caravan and camping show."
The 2020 Victorian Supershow was held February 20-24 and is the only CIV-organised outdoor caravan show that hasn't been cancelled this year, with the industry body instead running an online-only Victorian Caravan and Camping Virtual Show from late September.
The CIV said the five-day online exhibition had been a "resounding success", with more than 67,000 people logging in during the initial five days and 164 exhibitors taking part.
The Victorian RV industry has been hit particularly hard by the coronavirus pandemic, with more than 50 factories forced to shut down for up to 12 weeks in total since March, while dealers and repairers have also had to close their doors for extended periods.
While RV and outdoor shows have also been cancelled in other states of Australia, a number of 'COVID-Safe' outdoor shows are now being held mostly in Queensland, including the Let’s Go Brisbane Caravan & Outdoor Sale which kicks off tomorrow.
