Well-regarded Melbourne manufacturer Vanguard Caravan Sales has been placed in liquidation, with the factory shutting its gates earlier this week.
According to an online notice, company members met two days ago and decided to wind up the company, with Keith Laurence Sutherland appointed as liquidators. A creditors’ meeting is due to be held in Melbourne on June 7.
Led by director John Kyriakidis, Vanguard for much of its 30-plus years in business was a “badge builder”, producing vans under various brand names including Adventure Caravans, Freedom Off Road, Maytow and Island Star.
In 2011 the Epping, Victoria-based manufacturer began to offer an official range of vans under its own name, which most recently were sold at five dealers in four states.
With a strong focus on quality, Vanguard was one of a handful of caravan manufacturers in Australia to have full ISO Quality Assurance, and one of the first to provide gas and electrical certificates as well as a public weighbridge docket.
The business changed its name from Vanguard Caravans to Vanguard Caravan Sales in 2012, at a time when incorrect rumours were circulating that the company had gone bust.
Vanguard Caravan Sales is the latest Melbourne caravan manufacturer to hit troubled times, with Crusader Caravans recently placed into voluntary administration before given a fresh start by new investors.
