Melbourne’s Van Cruiser has released a new off-road caravan that its trend-setting builder-boss Enzo Gnocato – who brought us Australia’s first spa bath caravan a few years ago – is assuring customers will be ‘100 per cent dust free’.
Built on a 100mm G&S chassis with a 100mm riser and with a 150mm extended A-frame, the new 16ft 2in X Machine HTO features a new, lower profile and much more aesthetic version of the roof-mounted 12-volt Cabin Pressure System displayed in prototype form at last year’s Victorian Caravan Supershow.
Supplied by mining vehicle air conditioning specialists, Lyons, the Cabin Pressure System supplies positive pressure to the interior of the X Machine via a large fan with a cleanable dust filter mounted above the van’s rear entry door, repelling dust that might otherwise enter via its mandatory lower door gas venting.
A separate checker plate external deflector also directs dust away from the van’s higher wall vent.
The low-profile blower's white roof box that houses the main fan unit is a much more refined ‘look’ than the industrial-looking black blower fitted to the prototype.
It 's available as an option at a cost of $2300 fitted to any Van Cruiser model.
The X Machine also featured Van Cruiser’s own unique water tank solution for remote area travel, consisting of twin Roto-moulded tanks that can be subdivided to deliver 50 litres of drinking water, 50 litres of grey water storage and up to 190 litres of river water for showering, with separate fillers and lines to avoid cross-contamination.
The X Machine HTO also comes well-equipped for living off the grid, with two 140AH lithium batteries and 450W of rooftop solar power as standard, controlled by a BMPRO and optimised with a DC-DC charger.
Inside, the new HTO off-roader packs a north-south queen bed, a café dinette and a semi shower and toilet ensuite into its compact size. It retails from $62.950.
