Van Cruiser debuts dust buster
Melbourne custom builder unveils novel solution for keeping dust from its off-roadersIt wouldn’t be a caravan show without some quirky idea from Van Cruiser’s Enzo Gnocato and this year it’s his air-curling solution for keeping dust at bay in his off-roaders.
In the past he’s brought us aluminium, clad caravans in a rainbow of eye-watering colours,
built the world’s first van with a fully-plumbed and operational spa bath and used pebble-coat instead of vinyl and checker-plate respectively on caravan floors and flanks.
Now he’s introduced the ‘dust buster’.
His roof-mounted air compressor, which blows filtered air into his vans at the rate of 3000 litres per minute and can be installed new on any Van Cruiser hybrid pop top or caravan model, was displayed on the roof of a 2017-model 16ft 4in

Rather than skirt around the compulsory regulations that require a specific air throughput and dust-sucking venting when internal gas appliance are fitted, Gnocato has tackled the problem head-on via a more pragmatic route.
The matte-black ‘Positive Cabin Pressure’ blower looked a little out of place on the HTO’s white roof, but Gnocato says the product really works very well and will be developed successively to give it a lower profile.
The industrial-strength blower is mounted directly above the door, drawing power from the van’s 12V battery and operates via a simply manual on/off switch. Quite simply, it pumps more air into the van than can otherwise pass through its mandatory gas venting, creating a pressured wall that stops dust entering at any speed.
His blower is a cheaper, less sophisticated, but probably equally effective solution compared with the ‘Always Positive’ system fitted as standard on Kimberley’s
Rather than blow air into the van at a constant pressure, the Kimberley system continually monitors inside pressure and maintains a constant 0.1PSI increase over the outside pressure, regardless of travelling speed.
The new Van Cruiser system is a cheaper option at $3000 but because of the roof wiring involved, is not retro-fittable at this stage.
