Unique pop-top motorhome arrives

Knaus Tourer CUV is compact like a campervan but delivers comfy four-berth motorhome living

German RV giant Knaus-Tabbert has blended the best features of a compact campervan conversion with that of a larger, separate body motorhome, to deliver its latest Tourer CUV concept.

Revealed on the Knaus website in the form of some computer renderings, the big-selling German manufacturer said its new motorised RV design is "revolutionary".

Full length pop-top roof for CUV Tourer motorhome

"The new Tourer CUV unites the best of two worlds in a new class," Knaus said on social media. "Agile in driving operation like an urban-class vehicle, when stationary, it has the space of a fully-fledged motorhome for up to four people."

The 5.88m long, VW Transporter based Knaus Tourer CUV is designed to be easy to drive in traffic and manouevre around camp sites like a compact campervan, while delivering the interior space and comforts of a larger motorhome when set up for camping.

Family motorhome is just 5.88m long

Unlike most fixed-roof motorhomes it has a van-style pop-top roof that delivers 1.9m headroom throughout the living space, along with other clever design features in its modular layout, like a rear bed that partially folds away when expanding out the internal ensuite with separate shower and toilet.

The wider side walls of the semi-integrated motorhome body, also allow more room for the fully equipped kitchen and dinette.

Adjustable bedding makes room for fold-out bathroom

For bigger families there will be an option to slide in another double bed inside the pop-top roof cavity (a bit like the latest Jayco), and an alternative layout that includes a larger dinette that converts into a double bed, different bathroom design and no rear bed.

Knaus is likely to unveil a production-ready version of the Tourer CUV, along with full pricing and specification details, at the 2022 Düsseldorf Caravan Salon in August.
