Owners of Jayco caravans and campers fitted with the latest JTECH suspension will soon be able to buy a remote controlled, tyre-driven, roller-type caravan mover that can be easily removed to avoid damage when venturing off-road.
Due to be launched in Australia around mid-2015, the new ‘plug and play’ mover from caravan accessory manufacturer Purple Line is the first system of its type to be mounted to the axle, rather than the chassis.
It’s also the first designed specifically for the independent, Jayco-only JTECH suspension, which can be removed to improve clearance and prevent damage when driving off-road.
Two versions of the e-go Plug & Play mover will be available: one designed to fit the JTECH suspension, and another for caravans with the popular AL-KO beam axle.
Purple Line believes this covers up to 70 per cent of all caravans and campers sold in Australia, but it will also consider introducing versions for other suspension systems such as the popular Cruisemaster off-road set-up
While the Purple Line portable caravan mover has been available in the UK for almost 12 months, local versions currently in final prototype stage have been modified to suit Australian conditions.
Another advantage of the new Plug & Play mover is that it’s designed for easy, DIY fitment, saving buyers the cost of having it professionally installed.
Once the adjustable mounting brackets are bolted in place, the main unit simply slides on and locks in place with two ‘release’ pins.
Like other e-go movers available from Purple Line, the new axle-mount models are made
of anodized alloy components for light weight and corrosion resistance,
and are suitable for single vans up to 2.25 tonnes and dual axle vans up
to 3.5 tonnes.
The main unit should weigh around 8kg, and pricing is expected to be similar to other e-go movers, from around $1600 for a single axle unit.
“Not only does our quick-release axle mount work with JTECH, it makes it easy to take the mover out of harm’s way for off-road travel and re-fit it for close-quarters manoeuvring,” said Purple Line Australia’s Malcolm Hill.
“It also ensures constant roller pressure in all conditions, whereas the big deflection of an off-road suspension can alter a chassis-mounted mover’s roller pressure on the tyre.
“For people with more than one trailer, a Plug & Play mover can easily be swapped between their trailers, with an optional power pack for use on un-powered trailers.”
The unit is powered either through the RV’s existing house battery, or Purple Line is looking to introduce a ‘hand held’ lithium battery pack to power the mover independently.
