Australia has produced a handful of floating caravans over the years, but with price tags mostly into six figures, caravans that double as boats are generally out of reach of most buyers.
However, there’s currently an opportunity to purchase a decade-old, Melbourne-built floating caravan in excellent condition, for a fraction of its original purchase price.
Featuring a fully moulded fiberglass body sitting on a conventional trailer, the floating Aquavan measures 7.0 metres long, or 23ft in the old scale, or 8.2m when sitting on the trailer.

Other measurements are similar to a caravan’s, including a 2.4m exterior width, and 2.9m height (on the trailer), while Tare weight is 1700kg. After hitting the water it's powered along by a 20hp Honda outboard, with two fuel tanks to ensure you get back to the ramp.
Boat wise, it comes with all the usual features like CB radio, navigation aids, depth sounder, life jackets and fishing rod storage, while the caravan gear includes a TV and DC/DVD player, 140 litre fridge, oven, microwave, four burner stove/grille, shower/toilet (with 120 litre grey tank), 105Ah deep cycle battery, 9kg gas bottle, awning, and 120L fresh water tank.
It sleeps four, with two daytime seats that convert to double beds at night.

The Aquavan appears to have had a short production life. They were built in very low numbers at a factory in the Melbourne suburb of Bayswater, and displayed at caravan shows at the time.
The advertised 2006-build Aquavan is located in NSW and has not been used since the current owner bought it about a year ago. It's described as being in “near new” condition and "tows beautifully".
The Aquavan is best suited to lakes and sheltered waterways, but unlike a more conventional caravan, you can ‘cruise’ along while grabbing a cuppa or fixing lunch.
