Big ticket Unimog-based off-road motorhome attracts big crowds at Sydney SupershowAnother tough Mercedes-Benz Unimog-based motorhome has broken cover, at this year’s NSW Caravan, Camping & Holiday Supershow.
First details of the Unimog Kruiser emerged around mid-2017, and now a finished prototype has gone on display at the Sydney Supershow, attracting big crowds keen to take a closer look at the jacked-up luxury 4x4 truck camper.
A collaboration between Ballina, NSW-based Kimberley Kampers and Gold Coast-based Unidan Engineering, the Unimog motorhome is based on a fully restored and modified ex military Australian army 1986 Unimog model.
The fibreglass motorhome body is based on Kimberley’s cutting-edge Kruiser S-Class caravan and features a fully-equipped kitchen and ensuite and accommodation for up to three people.
Just some of the many features of the self-contained expedition vehicle include 180 litres freshwater water storage and winterized water piping to prevent freezing in colder climates, along with a diesel heater and air-conditioner, top-load washing machine, waterless toilet, electric island bed, 130 litre fridge and induction or diesel cooktop, an outdoor kitchen, 200Ah lithium battery system with solar panels and inverter, and multi-media system with satellite and 4G modem.
The restored ex-military single cab U1700 Unimog is available with a host of performance, suspension and tyre and wheel upgrades from Unidan including winches, roof racks and rapid tyre inflation systems.
Pricing starts at $250,000, although most buyers are likely to pay a lot more than that by the time they tick a few of the many option boxes.
