Ultimate Xplors tougher look

New Xplor-based GT and XTerra add glamour and grunt to NSW manufacturer's compact off-road camper line-up

Following last year’s carbon-fibre clad,

20th anniversary X20, NSW-based Ultimate Off-Road Campers has rolled out two further variants of its two-year-old,

compact Xplor model at this year’s Sydney Supershow.

In line with the current trend for tough-looking ‘black editions’, the new XTerra (pictured) has a darkened, black and grey exterior finish, in stark contrast to the slick, white fibreglass look of the standard Xplor camper.

“We specced it up to suit the hardcore off-roader a little bit better, including upgrading the stone protection around it,” explained Ultimate Campers’ national sales and marketing manager Simon Don.

“Inside, it’s a little more practical too, with soft, leather-style vinyl seating. We’ve also upgraded the battery charger (to a Redarc Manager30) and relocated the electronics to a more practical spot.”

The XTerra also gets flared guards to fit up to 35in tyres, extra recovery shackles and extra jerry can for carrying fuel.

There are also new colours and finishes to freshen up the interior.

“It catches people’s eye, including people who probably wouldn’t have looked at us before. We’ve had people come up to us and say they like the colour… it looks like more of a tough off-roader than maybe some of the other ones we do,” he said.

“Obviously it’s the same suspension, the same body, they’re all just as capable across the range. I think it just stands out a little bit more.”

Also on display in Sydney was the new Xplor GT, a new range-topper with grey instead of white nosecone and a number of options fitted as standard including the latest Redarc Manager30 battery management system and upgraded entertainment system.

There are also new colour scheme and fabric choices, and a new “simplified levelling system” designed to speed up an already sharp set-up time.

The XTerra costs $3400 more than the standard Xplor, at $55,900, while the XPlor GT starts at $59,950.
