There are an estimated 100-plus Aussie caravan brands on the market, all competing for a slice of 20,000-plus annual sales, based on last year's figures.
But that hasn't stopped at least two more Victoria-based caravan brands from entering the market in quick succession...
First off the blocks is the new range of Opus hardtop off-road caravans which made its public debut at the Adelaide Caravan, Camping and Off-Road Sale in late-July.
Unlike the Opus hybrid and camper ranges which are imported, the new Opus full-height vans are built locally at a factory in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Available with both couple and family layouts and rated up to 3500kg (ATM), the new two-model range kicks off at $92,999 (driveaway Vic.) for the OP19 off-road caravan which comes equipped with a long list of standard features including a DO-35 coupling and off-road coil suspension, reverse cycle air conditioner, 190L fridge freezer, washing machine, TV and audio entertainment, and a full-size ensuite.
Also included in the price is a 300Ah lithium battery system with 630W rooftop solar, and 180L fresh and 95L grey water capacity. The larger 21ft OP21 model has a similar equipment list for a starting price of $97,999 (towaway Vic.).
Opus Australia Digital Marketing Manager Joel Stocklinger said he received some buyer interest but no firm orders yet on the new models at the Adelaide show. There's only a four-week wait for delivery on one of the new vans at the moment, and he also said it's likely that other variations will be added to the range in the future, according to demand.
The locally-built Opus OP caravan range will be appearing at other shows this year including the Melbourne Leisurefest in October, and will also be on display soon at Opus dealers around the country.
Meanwhile, the Our Van RV caravan dealer and repairer on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula has just added another new caravan brand to its stable.
Our Van RV has stocked a number of different caravan brands over the years including Atlantic, Legion, Kor, Endeavour and Serenity, with the new Melbourne-built Momentum Caravans range fitting into the luxury full-size rough-road category, with both Velocity and Shift tandem axle models available.
Our Van RV has only released a few online details so far about its latest range which is currently on display at the Rosebud dealership. Keep eye on both the Our Van RV and Momentum Caravans website for all the latest updates on the new range.
