It's not often you get to camp in the middle of a giant paddock, amongst thousands of utes and festival-goers and experience two days of Outback-themed fun and entertainment.
But that's what this year's Deniliquin Ute Muster is promising, with the purchase of a two-day ticket to the adrenaline-charged Outback festival including two nights of camping in your tent, caravan or motorhome.
Since the first Deni Ute Muster in 1999 wrote itself into the record books with the largest parade of legally registered utes in the world (2839), the annual Deni Play on the Plains Festival has grown from strength to strength.
This year's festival on September 28-29 promises to be even bigger and better, with headline musical acts including Kelly Clarkson, The Living End, Lee Kernaghan, John Williamson, McAlister Kemp, The McClymonts, and Daryl Braithwaite.
As well as the annual ute record attempt, which currently stands at 10,152, an attempt will also be made to break the 'blue singlet' record set in 2010 at 3500 people.
Revheads will be well served with non-stop action including the Australian National Circle Work Championship and a Show N Shine display including the Ute of the Year awards, not to mention other less serious competitions like barrel races, ute pulling, go to whoa, and swag throwing.
Other entertainment includes fly overs by the RAAF Roulettes, Bull Ride Spectacular, The Stockyard trick horseriding, Showtime FMX bikes, tractor pull and IWF Pro Wrestlers. The AFL Grand Final will also be telecast live on the big screen.
There will be plenty to keep the kids happy too, with the Sunrice Family Centre offering a plethora of free children's activities, an animal farm and for the first time, children's movies will be screened on both nights on a huge inflatable screen.
Families can get away from the noisy hordes by camping in the dedicated family camping area which has its own shower and toilets, and small fires are permitted. And for those without camping equipment, a 'rent-a tent' option is also available, including stretcher beds, mattresses and sleeping bags with liners for up to four people.
Tickets to the Deni Play on the Plains festival are $180 for adults, $90 for 13-17 year olds, while children under 13 are free.
Located not far from the Victorian/NSW border, Deniliquin is approximately four hour's drive from Melbourne, or about eight and a half hours from Sydney.
