Since its introduction two years ago, the Melbourne-built Mitchell with its rear-hinged pop-top roof has attracted favourable reviews for the extra room it affords occupants to access its fixed queen bed – with enough room at the bedhead to even sit up and read.
The new Tvan fibreglass roof addresses this with a different profile that adds around 100mm to the headroom above the bed and living space, giving the interior a lighter and airier ambiance without any difference in overall travelling height or weight.
“We considered making the roof a pop-top, but dismissed the idea because it would compromise structural integrity, add extra weight and could potentially have sealing issues,” said Track Trailer’s Marketing Manager, Lloyd Waldron.
Another benefit of the new roof profile is that it accommodates a full 120W solar panel, double the size of the s 60W panel that the traditional Tvan roof can house. This ups the ante on the Mitchell, which has an 80W roof-mounted solar panel as standard.
“The extra solar power will make it easier for travellers to stay longer off the beaten track,” said Waldron.
At this stage, the new roof will be available only on new orders of Track Trailer’s Tvan Firetail model that was introduced last year to mark the 18th anniversary of the Tvan. However, Track Trailer is contacting customers with orders already in the system, offering them the opportunity to upgrade.
While the roof is exclusive to the Firetail, caravancampingsales believes prospective purchasers of other new Tvan model should be able to twist TT’s arm to have the roof installed on the Tvan model of their choice if it is not yet in production.
The new roof and larger solar panel will add $890 to the Firetail’s current 2017 price of $59,100.
