Another informative Share the Road video has hit social media channels, designed to reduce the amount of stress on crowded highways as well as avoid clashes between holiday travellers and truck drivers.
Co-presented by truck driver and road safety advocate Rod Hannifey, the 'Truckies Top Tips' educational video presents some valuable tips for all road users, including:
Don't cut in front of trucks
Don't overtake a turning truck
Don't accelerate when being overtaken by a truck
Keep to the left of the lane when passing an oncoming truck to prevent wind buffeting
Be aware of truck 'blind spots' when passing one on a dual lane road
Reduce high beam headlights around trucks at night.
Hannifey said the advice is from the findings of a survey he conducted some years ago to identify drivers’ key safety concerns, firstly at a transport yard and subsequently through industry media.
“You get a licence when you’re 17 years old and hold it until you’re 70, but unless someone you know takes you for a ride in a truck, you’re unaware of the differences involved," he explains.
"Understanding these differences can only improve the safety of all road users, particularly that of young drivers.”
