Trakmaster Pilbara goes extreme

Melbourne custom builder gives latest 16ft off-road Pilbara van the 20th anniversary ‘Extreme’ treatment

Trakmaster will kick off its 20th Anniversary celebrations at this week’s Melbourne Leisurefest with a new fully-loaded ‘Extreme’ version of its most off-road capable Pilbara caravan.

Priced from $98,190, the Melbourne-based custom builder plans to build a limited number of specially-equipped “Extreme” Anniversary versions of its 16ft 10in Pilbara caravan, each equipped with the most specialised features in its extensive off-road arsenal.

Standard equipment on the Pilbara ‘Extreme’ will include Trakmaster’s extreme rear cut-away, hot dipped galvanised steel chassis with wind-up spare wheel, rear recovery (tow) points and a unique drop-down wood tray.

Trakmaster’s own premium self-levelling ‘Trak Air’ air suspension will be standard for the Pilbara Extreme’s trailing arm tandem axle suspension, while it’s also equipped with a built-in ARB Twin motor high volume air compressor to employ the system to reinflate tyres after off-road travel.

And what is believed to be a ‘first’ for an Australian caravan model, a state of the art 200aH Enerdrive lithium-ion power system with a built-in 240v charger, DC-to-DC battery charger and solar regulator will be fitted as standard equipment.

Connected to 270W of roof-mounted solar power and pre-wired to be supplemented by portable solar panels, it will allow owners to live self-sufficiently for extended periods in remote areas and with the option of a large inverter to power many domestic appliances, such as a coffee machine, a microwave oven and even hair drier away from 240V mains power.

Dexter DSC Sway Control and four-wheel 12-inch electric brakes are also part of the ride and handling package.

Other exclusive Pilbara Anniversary equipment will include the latest high-efficiency Denso Australian made roof-mounted air conditioner, a 146 litre EvaKool upright 12 volt compressor fridge/freezer, stone-shielding steel mesh on the caravan’s A-frame and a truckmesh front stone shield.

A styling feature of all Pilbara ‘Extremes’ will be their distinctive lime green decals, while a pair of matching lime green MaxTrax will be mounted on the window-less rear wall.

Buyers will be able choose from two internal configurations – one with twin single beds and the other an island rear double bed.
