Trakka glampervans tempt Sydney showgoers

NSW motorhome builder quick to market with new campers based on latest Fiat and VW vans

Significantly revised models from Trakka were among the highlights in the motorhome section at the 2021 NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow held in Sydney recently.

The 2021-build Trakka Trakkadu and Torino T2 campervans have both received notable enhancements, in part thanks to updates to the core vehicles on which they're based – the latest 2021 Volkswagen Transporter 6.1 forming the basis of the Trakkadu and revised 2021 Fiat Ducato, the latest Torino.

Given that the Transporter 6.1 was only launched in February, Trakka has been quick to get the new Trakkadu to market, no doubt thanks to the company’s long-standing collaboration with Volkswagen Australia.

The Volkswagen Transporter 6.1 features a new dashboard, more durable seat material and new LED cabin lighting, along with smart phone mirroring for the new 6.5-inch infotainment screen.

Externally, the front bumper, grille, headlights and sheetmetal are also new, as are the LED DRLs and guard badges and LED taillights at the rear.

The Trakkadu’s fit-out, while still based on the design first seen in 2006, has also seen some notable changes. For 2021, the VW campervan's refreshed fit-out includes integrated window blinds/mesh screens for the rear and sides, new seat materials, a new fold-away bed overlay and fresh LED strip lighting throughout.

Trakka Trakkadu driveaway pricing starts at $114,500 for the Trakkadu 340, followed by the $118,500 Trakkadu 340 4Motion, the $126,000 Trakkadu 450 4Motion and $141,500 Trakkadu AT.

Meanwhile, the MY2020 ‘Series 7’ Fiat Ducato on which the Trakka Torino T2 is based benefits from a new, Euro6 emissions compliant, 130kW/450Nm 2.3-litre turbo-diesel engine.

While engine torque in the Ducato is up 50Nm in auto form, the often-criticised six-speed single-clutch automated manual has been ditched for a new ZF nine-speed torque-converter automatic with three drive modes.

The latest Ducato also gets new safety features, including autonomous emergency braking, forward collision alert and lane departure warning.

Other new features for the Fiat-based Trakka Torino T2 include climate control air conditioning for the front cab, integrated LED lighting with dimming function, a standard Remote Pack, larger water tank storage, new kitchen flooring and tilt-adjust for the 1.9-metre long beds.

The Remote Pack, which was previously an option, includes side and rear-sliding, concertina style screened/meshed windows and roof-mounted 100W solar (which can be upgraded to 200W with the optional Alfresco Pack).

The new Trakka Torino T2 costs $140,000 (drive-away, NSW).
