Trailblazers enters off road camper market
Innovative off-road hybrid debuts at LeisurefestBraeside, Melbourne-based slide-on, 5th wheeler and expedition vehicle specialist Trailblazers RV has entered the highly-competitive off-road hybrid camper market with an innovative new 3.8m long pop-top priced from $39,900.
Based on its slide-on campers, the company’s new off-road camper range consists of three dramatic rear cut-away all-fibreglass single-axle models – the price-leading Gunbarrel, Kidman and top-spec Eyre.
All feature the same in-house bespoke steel chassis, Al-Ko Enduro Outback trailing arm independent coil and shock absorber suspension and locally-made fibreglass composite bodywork, but are distinguished by their different equipment levels.
Although displayed in pre-production form, the 1100kg tare weight Gunbarrel will come with a fixed queen bed with large under-bed exterior storage, plus a roomy chest of drawers and an interior sink.
The exterior kitchen, fridge-holder and pantry are incorporated in the camper’s novel (patent pending) nose pod that slides off the A-frame to the door side to form an L-shaped extension of the camper’s outdoor area.
Trailblazers had a Weber Baby Q fitted in this area in the prototype at Leisurefest (finished at 7am on show morning) but will have a two-burner cooktop in production models with the Weber as an option.
A wind-out Dometic awning completes the outdoor area.
In its ultimate Eyre specification, priced from $79,900, the Trailblazers pop-top will come equipped with a combined shower-toilet ensuite and an additional interior cooktop in place of the chest of drawers, three 130W solar panels on its roof and a 200Ah Redarc lithium battery. It's expected to weigh about 55kg more at a tare of approx.1150kg.
Both the Gunbarrel and Kidman can be optioned to sleep four, via their café dinettes, while twin and bunk bed layouts will also offered. Because of the space occupied by its ensuite and kitchen, the Eyre only sleeps two.
The Gunbarrel and Kidman will have ATMs of 2000kg, while the Eyre will have an ATM of 2500kg, meaning all will have plenty of carrying capacity.
Solar is an option on the base Gunbarrel, as is a second 100AGM battery or the Eyre’s lithium battery.
A standout distinguishing feature of the Gunbarrel displayed at Leisurefest was its 37-inch high balloon all-terrain Goodyear Wrangler tyres fitted to 17-inch wheels, but Trailblazer RV plans to fit slightly less eye-catching 33-inch tall Wranglers to production versions.
Trailblazers also used Leisurefest to show off a new Iveco truck-mounted Toybox toy hauler, complete with rear ramp doors, a sliding pod at the front and similar creature comforts to the Off Road pop-tops.
