Trailblazers builds tough fifth-wheeler
Melbourne custom builder unveils toughest fifth-wheel van to dateOn display at the 2016 Bendigo Leisurefest show alongside its latest camper trailer, Trailblazers new 230E model is not the first fifth-wheel caravan suitable for off-road use from the Braeside, Victoria-based manufacturer. But it looks the most bush ready, with heavy-duty underpinnings that include the latest Al-Ko Enduro independent coil suspension and extreme rear cutaway chassis to reduce the risk of damage over rough terrain.
Externally, the 23ft long fifth-wheeler cuts a striking profile with its smooth white fibreglass exterior contrasting with black steel wheels, black locker doors and black trim around the windows. The ultra-modern theme is carried inside, where the use of a textured black finish on the lower kitchen cupboards and very wide overhead locker doors sets the Trailblazer apart from the crowd.
Like most fifth-wheelers, the front bedroom is accessible via a big step up from the main living area, which includes a spacious club lounge, kitchen on both sides and separate shower and toilet.
The display model came well equipped with an air-conditioner as well as gas ducted heating system, 190 litre fridge, oven and microwave, a 2 x 100Ah battery system with inverter and 240W solar panels, 22in TV/DVD, washing machine and external BBQ.
To further justify the $120,000 price tag, it was also fitted with 360 litre fresh water and 160 litre grey water tanks, and power-operated entry steps, awning and ‘landing jacks’; not to mention remote-controlled LED lighting.
With a Tare weight of less than two tonnes and hitch weight of around 300kg, Trailblazers’ new 23ft fifth-wheeler is designed to be hauled by most popular dual-cab utes including the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
