Track Trailer’s latest Mate trailer variant, the top-spec Tour Mate, will make its public debut at the 2013 Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse from March 7-12.
The Tour Mate is the third model in TT’s Mate rollout, which when completed in a few months’ time will also include the Trade Mate that will serve as a weekday toolbox and weekend playmate base for other Mate accessories.
The range currently starts with the tough Base Mate bare bones box trailer, based on Track Trailer’s design supplied to Australia’s Army, RAAF and Navy forces.
There’s also the Weekend Mate, which comes in both soft and hard roof variations, designed for short-term camping in remote and often inaccessible places. (See last year's review
and the video below, for a full rundown).
The Tour Mate by contrast is a more conventional, full tent-based foldout camper that ramps up the model’s comfort meter for longer term or family use.
Utilising the same load bed as other Mates, it offers typical features found on other premium tent-based trailers, like a 70 litre water supply with electric water pump, 105Ah deep cycle battery with 150W pure sine wave inverter, full kitchen, as well as Track Trailer’s true go-anywhere MC2 Asymmetrical Link Suspension.
Priced at $29,900, the Tour Mate sits below Track Trailer’s $40,930 entry-model Tvan Yulara hard shell camper, and above the Weekend Mate ($21,968-$24,063 soft roof/hard roof Tent) and $14,300 Base Mate.
The Tour Mate also boasts integrated LED lighting, a Tvan-like integrated breakfast bar and a huge bed area with multiple mattress configurations (including optional innerspring bases) all part of the package.
To keep occupants cool, the Dynaproofed canvas tent has large sand-fly-proof windows and doors, a roof vent above the bed that’s shielded from the light and a full-size built-in tropical roof.
The Tour Mate’s large rear awning also provides shade, privacy and protection from the elements when cooking with the large kitchen, which slides out of the rear of the load bed and folds around to the side.
Options include full tent awning walls incorporating a draught skirt and a zip-on family room.
Like all Mates, the camper module of the Tour Mate can be removed from its 2416mm x 2063mm x 451mm tub, or retrofitted to any other Mate trailer, with a set of long corner jacks supplied to make this process possible.
