Tough truck for motorcycle champ

Grand Prix champ Daryl Beattie builds tough Iveco 4x4 support vehicle for extreme off-road adventure tours
Ex- 500cc Grand Prix racer Daryl Beattie is now the owner of one of the best equipped and most capable expedition vehicles in the country.
The former Australian motorcycle champion has taken the keys to a custom-built off-roader based on the latest Iveco 4x4 truck, that will carry food, water and fuel, camping equipment, spare parts and first aid equipment for participants on Beattie's personalised off-road motorcycle adventures.
Started in 2013 Daryl Beattie Adventures conducts motorcycle tours to some of Australia’s most remote and inhospitable locations including across the Simpson Desert, to Cape York and along the Canning Stock Route.
Beattie’s Eurocargo 4x4 truck is brimming with off-road goodies including a full-time 4x4 system, hub reduction and front, centre and rear differential locks that ensure maximum traction when conditions deteriorate.
Also assisting off-road are multi-leaf springs with dual acting hydraulic shock absorbers and high tensile steel chassis that allows twisting for maximum articulation over undulations.
Grunt is provided by Iveco’s 5.9-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine delivering 950Nm of torque from as low as 1200rpm, matched to a six-speed manual transmission. Tour driver ‘Scooter’ will also enjoy a sound-proofed cabin, air suspended driver’s seat, and cross cabin access.
Specialist expedition body builder Unidan Engineering, was in charge of the customisation work. The body comprises a steel frame with impact-resistant, custom layered composite skin and rounded edge aluminium trimming.
Access to the interior is via three gull wing-style doors and on-board equipment includes a massive 1400 litre water tank, four 110 litre Waeco fridge/freezers, a bike storage area with room for two Honda Africa Twins, and storage for bedding and supplies for 13 people.
On the outside the truck boasts custom bar work, a tyre pressure management system for easy deflation and airing of tyres, a lift crane, 17,500lb rear recovery winch, a second winch to load and unload motorcycles, 3000W inverter, gas bottle holders and custom underbody BBQ box with slide-out drawer and stainless steel bench.
For a touch of luxury in the outback, the truck also features a Waeco diesel hot water system and outdoor shower and a 12V/240V charging system for powering portable electronic devices.
Heading off May 26, the Iveco truck is expected to cover as much as 50,000km this year as support for nine Daryl Beattie Adventures tours.
