One of the latest examples of a growing number of compact expedition-style 'glampers', will make its show debut at this month's Newcastle Caravan Camping and Lifestyle Expo, running from February 4-6 at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Showground in NSW.
The Toytuf TF1 sits around the middle, price-wise of the latest crop of lightweight 'base station' off-road campers, between the likes of the premium Queensland-built Patriot X1 and new Exceed and Offtrax campers, and cut-price Chinese-built bush trailers like the Adventure Kings MT1 trailer and MDC Mod Box.
The 2022-updated Toytuf TF1 from NSW-based imported camper brand Signature is jam-packed with camping tech, including a 200Ah lithium battery system, 12V pie oven and pod coffee machine, for its relatively affordable starting price of $29,990.
Introduced in 2021, the top-spec Toytuf TF1 model is based on Signature's Deluxe II Off-Roader camper which gets a more basic standard spec list for its $19,990 starting price.
"We found many buyers (of the Signature Deluxe II Off-Roader) were upgrading and modifying them, so we thought we'd bring out a better-equipped, off-the-shelf version for these types of buyers," explained Signature Camper Trailers' Sales Marketing Manager Aaron Fogarty.
While the camper is largely built in China, the Toytuf TF1 is fitted out with some of the premium gear found on pricier rivals including locally-sourced Cruisemaster D0-35 coupling and an off-road trailing arm independent suspension with Lovells coils and shocks, to go with 16in alloys and mud terrain tyres, 12in electric drum brakes, an Ark off-road jockey wheel and a pair of Maxtrax recovery planks.
The Enerdrive system includes twin 100Ah lithium batteries, a 2000w pure sine wave Inverter, 40amp DC-DC charger and 20amp 240V charger, with the Nespresso coffee pod machine and Roadchef 12V travel oven located in the pull-out stainless steel kitchen.
The outside plumbed kitchen also gets a Dometic two gas burner cooker, and a sink with 12V pump drawing from 111 litre water tanks. Also included are an audio unit with speakers and various electrical plug-ins including an Anderson connection with input for a solar panel.
If that's not enough buyers also have the option to upgrade to two different airbag suspension set-ups, starting from an additional $3300.
Like other expedition-style trailers, the TF1 is all about storage with 2500 litres available in a number of external lockers and cages, including specific spots for kayaks and firewood, plus a rear locker slide for a 75 litre fridge. Tare weight is 1040kg, with an ATM of 1650kg.
There are also spots for twin jerry cans and a 9kg gas bottle around the front storage box, with the two-berth Toytuf HT1600 hard shell rooftop tent and user-friendly 270 degree self-supporting shade awning also part of the TF1 package.
The 4.0m by 1.8m wide body sits on a hot dipped galvanised chassis, with baked enamel paint, powdercoating and a Raptor finish together with a stone guard providing some protection when bush bashing.
For those who like to carry more recreational toys when camping, Fogarty said a toy hauler version of the TF1 camper will be available soon.
Other baby bush campers joining the Toytuf TF1 at the Newcastle show include models from Austrack, Stockman, Metalian, Conqueror, Hardkorr, MDC, Stoney Creek and Track.
A new three-model range of South African-built Cruizy fibreglass teardrop campers will also be on display in Newcastle.
