If you buy a new caravan and end up with warranty issues, it can be very frustrating after you have outlaid a huge amount of money.
Having experienced this myself I always warn family and friends about the necessary checks that the manufacturers place on new caravans or even cars.
Some give a time frame while others give a kilometre reading for the first check and service. Make sure you follow these instructions as the dealers are very quick to point out the repercussions if you neglect this.
Some caravan dealers will even point you in another direction because the microwave isn’t covered by their warranty. I’ve heard from many caravan owners who have had a terrible time trying to have their washing machine or oven repaired, but been told the manufacturer only supplies these and does not cover them under warranty. Very frustrating!
Another issue is the sealant used on the external panels of the caravan going mouldy because it was a cheap brand sealant and not moisture resistant. The manufacturer in this case told me it was because the caravan was kept and stored in Queensland!
Warranties are a big problem with any caravan – ask any caravan repairer. All you can do is make a checklist of all the questions you need to ask before deciding on which caravan to buy.
Most importantly, get some assurance about who covers the warranty for items in and on the caravan. It could save you a lot of hassles later…
