Top prices for used Toyota tow vehicles
Buyers paying 50 per cent more on average for a used LandCruiser 200 SeriesToyota isn’t just Australia’s number-one selling new-car brand – it’s also leading the charge in used-car price appreciation.
That’s the takeout from research based on carsales listings released this week.
And it’s not just popular Toyota tow vehicles like the LandCruiser 200 Series and Prado. There’s been significant appreciation across all of Toyota’s major model lines based on the period of 12 months to December 2020.
For example, the Toyota Corolla hatch median price was $15,995 in December 2019, but a year later was fetching an average price of $18,984 – an 18.7 per cent jump.
It was the same with sedans, with the Toyota Camry increasing in average price from $16,990 to $20,990. That equates to a 23.5 per cent step.
Toyota SUVs and the Toyota HiLux ute have been valued higher since the pandemic lockdowns, with the Toyota RAV4 increasing from $22,990 to $27,990 for a 21.7 per cent hike.
The LandCruiser 200 Series has leapt 52.2 per cent, from an average of $45,990 at the end of 2019 to a staggering sum of $69,990 as of the end of 2020.
Not quite as spectacular as the LandCruiser’s rise, the Prado is however pushing past $51,990 as of December 2020, a 36.9 per cent gain on the figure of $37,990 from 12 months earlier.
And the Toyota HiLux has picked up a 48.1 per cent gain, rising from $27,000 in December 2019 to $39,990 in December 2020.
Although the price of individual used Toyotas has shot ahead, it doesn’t mean that Toyotas were the only models to appreciate.
Among popular hatchbacks, pricing for the Honda Civic rose by 19.8 per cent, which was stronger than the Toyota Corolla. In sedans, the Mazda3 (25.1 per cent) outshone the Camry.
Toyota was the strongest brand in terms of price appreciation in SUVs, with three models listed. But of the top five searched SUVs, it was the Volkswagen Tiguan that actually increased in average price by the highest percentage – 58.4 per cent.
