The old saying “taking everything but the kitchen sink” applies to a small number of no-expense-spared RV rigs in Australia. With their truck or coach-based platforms and often towing large ’toy hauler’ trailers, their owners sacrifice little when it comes to heading off from home on a Big Lap.
Apart from fuel costs and needing a truck licence, the main downside of these mega-rigs are where to park them at night, although it’s less of a concern when you have enough water, power and refrigeration to stay off-the-grid for weeks on end.

They can also set you back the same money as a small city apartment, but then how many city pads can you move around as you please and ‘follow the sun’?!
Here are five mega RV rigs you can buy right now in Australia:
41ft Volvo motorhome
This 41ft five-star apartment on wheels is one of two $600,000-plus Volvo-based motorhomes currently for sale on caravancampingsales, but we’ve chosen this one as it comes with a matching enclosed trailer so you really don’t have to leave anything at home!
With 79,000km on the clock, the seller says this West Australian-based four berth motorhome is ideal for those who “wish to travel the country or are looking for a home to beat the rent whilst working in the north west”.

It’s certainly not lacking in amenities, with domestic style Miele dishwasher and washing machine, Rinnai instant hot water and two big-screen TVs among many appliances fitted, while a 5kVa generator, 1300 litres water capacity and a 400 litre fuel tank should keep you going for a while…

2005 Denning Jacana

Built from the ground up by coach specialist Denning and extnsively fitted out by NSW’s Jacana Motorhomes in a manner that would rival many domestic homes, it's dripping in desirabiliyt from the big kitchen with Gaggenau appliances to the spacious slide-out master bedroom.

The. fully customised, trailer big enough for a Subaru Forester and Quintrex fishing boat is a $35,000 optional extra.

2017 Mercedes Heartland Bighorn
This is the sort of big rig you’d expect to see touring the national parks of America rather than taking up most of the tarmac cruising the NSW hinterland...
Pulled by a Mercedes-Benz V8 truck, the American-built Bighorn fifth-wheeler is over 41ft long by itself and comes with no less than three slide outs, one and a half baths, a king size bed, and more storage than you'll probably ever need.

Just about everything operates via a push button or switch, and there are comforts galore like leather massaging and heated reclining chairs, as well as seating for nine overall and four beds.
Location: NSW
Asking price: $500,000

1995 Scania motorhome and trailer
The seller of this impressive RV rig with-the-lot describes it as probably “the best motorhome currently on the road in Australia” and who are we to argue?
Claimed to have a build cost of $635,000 (which included a $35,000 paint job!), the 40ft Scania-based mega-motorhome built by Jacana comes with an exhaustive list of features.

But what we like about it the most is the mulit-level trailer included in the price, that holds both a Mitsubish Pajero 4x4 and fishing boat, so you can hit the dirt trails and waterways after setting up for the night.
At $420,000, it’s also a relative steal compared to some of the others, and the seller will even consider swapping it for some real estate. Bargain!
Location: Queensland

2009 Majestic Ultimate
From the outside this 18,000kg GVM rated, MAN truck based motorhome might look like a bus full of tourists heading to Uluru, but the inside is all motorhome class.
One of the interior highlights is the inviting open front lounge area, which features no less than four leather recliners, along with modern looking kitchen and bathroom areas towards the rear.

Heating and cooling won’t be a problem with a big generator running two air-conditioners; there’s even a reverse osmosis water purifying system in this slick A-class motorhome built by NSW specialist Majestic Motorhomes.
Location: NSW
Asking: $380,000
