Top-5 supersized caravans for sale

If size and interior space matters, these extra large caravans should be on your shopping list

Australian-built caravans have never been bigger or more luxuriously appointed. But there are still some buyers who lust after the sort of apartment-style living that only a supersized fifth-wheel caravan can provide.

While we can't vouch for the build quality or overall condition of these extra large Australian and American-built fifth-wheelers, if it's interior space and stretching room you're after while doing the Big Lap, these rigs currently for sale deliver in spades..

Heartland Bighorn

There's not much missing on this monster, 44ft Heartland Bighorn... King size bed? Tick! Leather massaging and heated reclining chairs? Tick! Ducted air-con? Tick! 540 litre fridge/freezer? Tick! Underfloor heating? Tick! Two toilets and a Cummins generator? Tick, tick, tick!

The NSW seller of this American-built fifth-wheeler says the three-year old unit is fully Australian compliant and comes with self-levelling hydraulic stabilisers, airbag suspension and anti-lock braking. The only catch is you'll need a big truck to haul this fully-loaded nine tonne (ATM) van, advertised at $289,000...

Crossroads Cruiser

This massive American-built 35ft fifth-wheeler comes with all the "bells and whistles" according to the Queensland seller. It's also a complete package, with the Chevrolet Silverado LTZ 3500HD pictured included in the $280,000 advertised price.

With just about everything electric-operated including the awning and stabilisers, the 2014-build CrossRoads Cruiser should prolong the onset of cabin fever during months on the road, with an open-plan living area that includes an L-shape island kitchen bench, dining table and two lounges. You can also escape to the master bedroom with its mirrored wardrobes, that's separate from the lower-level living area.

Cedar Creek Silverback

This is another turn-key package, with the NSW seller asking $199,980 for both the Dodge Ram tow tug and 30ft-plus American-built Cedar Creek Silverback fifth-wheel caravan.

While few details are provided, the big fifth-wheeler does come with slide-outs for both the living room and master bedroom, along with a large timber-lined kitchen, dining table and lounge area. It's a good looking package that would be ideal for older couples who like to have their own space during long stints on the road...

Dryden Getaway

Dryden was a Queensland manufacturer of American-style fifth-wheel caravans, and this Queensland-based 32ft long, 2012-build Getaway model seems a good option for families with sleeping for up to six people.

With a kitchen galley on one side of the main living area, and dinette and lounges on the other, there's enough room in the middle to kick a footy, while the master bedroom is currently set up with a couple of double beds.

The bathroom also looks pretty spacious, and among the built-in appliances are a front-load washing machine and Onan generator. Looks decent buying too, with the 2008 GMC Sierra tow vehicle thrown in for the $175,000 asking price...

Truelux Opal

Truelux was a Melbourne-based fifth-wheeler and slide-on specialist, and this 28ft Truelux Opal fifth-wheel caravan looks to be in pretty good nick for a four-year-old RV.

It has an interesting interior layout, with a very large kitchen area extending into the back of the main living area, with a slide-out for the two lounge chairs, and a large separate bathroom that leads into the elevated master bedroom.

Well equipped for extended off-grid living and finished in a modern style, the $149,000 asking price includes an Iveco Daily tow vehicle so you'll be ready to hit the open road once they open the borders...
