Top-10 off-road caravan videos

Bog holes and big dips are not your friend when hauling a heavy RV rig off-road

Trailer trashing

Driving a 4WD vehicle along the roller-coaster dirt tracks to Cape York is on the bucket list of many adventure travelers, but would you be silly enough to take along a two tonne-plus camper trailer?

Probably not, but that didn’t stop the she'll-be-right larrikins from the All 4 Adventure TV Show subjecting an MDC hybrid and toy hauler to a Telegraph Track run, resulting in more bangs and bingles than a caravan derby!

Apparently it was all in the name of catching a barra in the pristine waters of Nesbit River, but surely there’s a less track-churning way of doing it..

Caravan chaos

With millions of YouTube views, the testosterone-filled family behind Queensland’s Kedron Caravans have quite the reputation for their caravan-bashing adventure videos.

This clip's from the 10th Gall Boys DVD and empty caravan shell or not, we'd be wary of any similar looking, used Kedron caravan 'bargains' on Caravancampingsales!

Out of this world

The wildlife would have run for cover when this hair-raising video of a Mars camper trailer being 'tested' around Lorella Springs in Northern Territory, was made a few years back.

In case the footage wasn't hardcore enough, there's the obligatory head-banging soundtrack and macho 'oh-yeah' in-cabin guffaws as the rev-happy driver presumably rips another piece of metal from the poor trailer's underbody...

Twilight zone

Almost a couple of years ago now, Queensland off-road composite caravan specialist Zone RV put together a series of videos on an epic west-to-east off-road trip that took in the infamous Gibb River Road, Tanami Highway and Plenty Highways.

As you can see from this teaser clip, they might have bitten off a bit more than they could chew!

Bogged down

Queensland's Patriot Campers has set a benchmark for quality small screen, off-road adventures, with its Patriot Games series now in its third season.

Like most ocker off-road adventure shows, the objective is to try and get through as many bog holes as possible, but what stood out about this episode set in the Simpson Desert is the attempt at track restoration after a marathon, mud-churning, six-hour rescue of a RAM truck pulling a Patriot camper...

Crazy Climies attempt

Having recently attempted (unsuccessfully) the 20km long Climies Track on Tasmania's west coast in a solo vehicle, it's hard to believe this teaser video of a recent episode of the OffRoad Adventure Show that depicts one vehicle actually trying to get through the gnarly rocks and ruts with a camper trailer in tow!

Not sure if they made it in one piece, but looks like the recovery planks got a good work-out..

Bailey bashing

This one's a flashback to 2015, when Bailey Australia was busy trying to promote its new range of UK/Australian lightweight caravans by subjecting them to the sort of corrugated abuse that would usually rattle an on-road touring van to bits...

Fifth sense

They like to do it bigger and better in America, so as further proof of this we thought we'd include this hard-to-believe footage of a super-sized US pick-up dragging a big fifth-wheel caravan through the sand... and unsurprisingly getting bogged!

Love the bit at the end where the tow truck tugs the super-sized rig to firmer ground!

Mud jumper

For something a bit different, here's some spectacular footage of our friends at SLRV in Queensland doing something you certainly wouldn't try with a more conventional luxury motorhome...

Playing in the sand pit

And finally, more sand-blasting heroics as two over-sized Jayco toy haulers make a dash for the hard sand at the popular Cooloola-Noosa beach camping strip. Hope they got back out OK!
